I found the Gen 2 version very easy to set-up and run. I have 9 PC's all linked wirelessly and it hasn't missed a beat for the 3 months that I have had it.
Pros: Easy setup,reliable.
Cons: The Netgear wirless USB's..they are a waste of time!
People who buy this unit and can't read instructions and guides!
this has given me no end of trouble since i converted to adsl2...from the very day i changed over i have been rebooting at least once an hour...as i type this i have rebooted 5 times in the last hour...about to throw it across the room.
Pros: none since converting to adsl2
Cons: absolute waste of time since adsl2...in the time it took me to become a member of this forum and write this post i have rebooted 3 times!!!!
Not happy at all. I always thought the dropouts were a computer problem. Only once I started searching the internet did I find that it's a problem with the modem. I'll be replacing this one with a more reliable one as soon as I can afford it.
I initially had problems getting this to work, it would constantly drop out, but as soon as I turned off DHCP - bam! Everything started to work! No more drop outs, everything is fine.
Pros: Sleek design
Great reliability once turned off DHCP
yep, the above gripes are true. it requires constant and consistent rebooting. I have 2 other people connected wirelessly and it is a source of frustration for them to turn on their laptops only to have no internet. If I am not at home, then they are without connection until I return. It's painful and happens spontaeously at any time of the day.
Pros: when it stays connected it is fine.
Cons: woeful connection stability - requiring rebooting every 24-48hrs.
Here is a copy of the letter I sent to Dlink. This should paint a pretty good picture of how much I hate Dlink....................
I just wanted to let you know how dissapointed another customer of yours is. I have been searching the net for help because your support is trash, and through all of my research everything unfortunately comes up the same. Very high percentages of people are having the same exact connection problem as I am having and even the pros such as C-net call the wbr-1310 an unfortunate experience and that hopefully Dlink will get it right in the future. I gave up my Linksys for this router and I will soon be returning it back to the store and getting a new trouble free Linksys router. Notice the words "trouble free"-that my friends is why we purchase new products so they will be trouble free and help us better. Your company obviously does not understand this concept. My old Linksys was trouble free, I just wanted to go from wireless B to G and found a good deal on your router and figured I'd give it a try.........WHAT A MISTAKE! I have had nothing but trouble since the day I installed it. I have had to call support a couple of times but I'm really tired of trying to figure out what your people are trying to say. ENGLISH PEOPLE!!!!!!!! I speak ENGLISH!!!!!!! Check the internet and you will find the proof I am using about how many people hate your routers.
Oh by the way Network Magic SUCKS, TOO. That did turn out to be one of my major problems. Now instead of losing router and internet connection every hour I only lose it about a half a dozen times a day. Going from a router that never once lost connection to one that loses connection on a daily basis is completely unacceptable. You should realize this and get to working on a fix......I see a buy out in your future hopefully for the better by getting rid of the piece of garbage you call a router.
Pros: None that I have found
Cons: Everything.....I have spent more time on the phone with them and more time fixing or resetting things with them than anyone should be.
It's A real shame all the people that are having trouble with this modem! It took a while for me to set-up initially, but has run stable for months with no resets or losing settings, unlike my DG632!
Pros: Heaps of features for a Techy like me!
A lot more stable than my Netgear DG632!
Excellent wireless range approx 50 metres from my house!
Cons: Hard for a non-techy to setup!
Needs manual IP, DNS and DHCP configured in modem and each computer to run stable for networking!
Routers, particularly wireless ones, are always a bit of an unknown quantity. These are our top 10 picks for wireless routers and modem/routers, for you to be able to make a more informed choice.
The Belkin N+ Wireless Router is a great performer with excellent range and throughput speed. If its bulky design and lack of 5GHz frequency support don't put you off, the router is worth every penny of its $189 or so price tag.
Telstra today adjusted pricing for its wireless broadband service for the second time in as many months, introducing a new low-use entry-level plan and data shaping on higher use contracts.

I have found this to work well, can't say about ADSL2/+ as I don't have it.
Firmware upgraded as soon as I got it.
Pros: Good wireless,
Cons: Setup could be better laid out(no connect button, hard to find save reboot button), does dropout every 2-3 months and requires power reset.

Mine worked very well, only had to reset it a few times, was quite reliable. Have gone to the same model in a GENII, much better stability.
Pros: Good price when I bought it, easy to set up, did the job well.
Cons: Dropped out a few times when I had it, a simple reboot sorted it.
