Episodes can be downloaded individually for AU$2.99 each. Some shows can be purchased by the season: series four of Lost retails for AU$41.86 while all eight episodes of Summer Heights High can be obtained for AU$21.99. As a comparison, US users can access most TV episodes for US$1.99 (AU$2.09).

Can someone please explain to me the deal with licensing TV shows, and why iTunes can't sell, for example, HBO shows as they air in the U.S?

Quote from article: As a comparison, US users can access most TV episodes for US$1.99 (AU$2.09). Yep, screwed again by Apple. Aussie shows will be $2.99. And that isn't all Apple screws loyal customers over!! iPods are more expensive than the US, the iPhone will be more expensive and now TV shows will be more expensive. Why buy a TV show that you won't be able to store somewhere other than iTunes anyway? Not that I would want to anyway, as soon as I've seen it I delete anything I record on PVR anyway.

i must admit i dont subscribe to the whole "apple screws us over" arguement - yes a macbook/ipod/iphone costs more, but im happy to pay more for what i believe to be better products. that said, i don't understand how apple can justify a fee structure that sells a seasons of tv shows for 2-3 more than the cost of the same season on DVD... i think the mail reason music sales have gone well is because you can buy the same songs on a CD for half the price of the CD itself (even if, like me, you only download the few tracks you like). I think for TV downloads to really take off, they need to be priced lower than what it costs to buy and rip the DVD. I'm still a fanboy (i downloaded the pilot of scrubs just for teh experience of downloading a TV show from itunes!) but I think apple does need to reconsidered the fees
