VW's baby four-wheel drive, the Tiguan, looks like a three-quarter scale of the Touareg but, in truth, it's a jacked up and toughened up Golf.

What exactly is a Tiguan?
As you can see it's a small four-wheel drive, pitched in the same size class as the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V and Nissan X-Trail. Like those other "cute utes", the Tiguan is based on a car — in this case the Golf — not a truck. Prices start from AU$33,990.

The TSI motor is a 2.0L turbo only engine. No supercharger.

i had a look at this car in the showroom yesterday. It looks great and the quality is high. I want to get a 147kw TSI with leather and sunroof (only comes in auto). It's not in Oz till the end of 2008, but they have prices for it. Over $53K on the road. My heart started to race. I really would like this car but it is a bit expensive. The boot is a bit small for a family of 4 and this would not be a good car to take on a holiday because of luggage restrictions. But for 95% of the time running around the city etc it would be great. I could get an XT premium Forester for well less than this and I would be able to get a manual and save more. The Forester is not as high in quality but is bigger in luggage capacity. I'll have to think about this...... but I'd really like a Tiguan. Keep saving I guess??????

Hi Phil, You're right about the TSI being a turbo petrol only -- VW recently "amended" the nomenclature, so TSI no longer refers exclusively to the Twincharger. We've updated the story. Sorry for the delay.
