Hard-disk camcorders offer more space than you can poke the proverbial stick at, allowing you to record hours upon hours of footage. We nominate three of the best.
If you're travelling around the world, have the urge to film your team's entire cricket match or want to record in high-definition, then hard-disk camcorders are the go. Good hard-drive cameras don't come cheap though, so our pick from the standard-definition models, the JVC Everio GZ-MG505, is nominally priced within striking distance of our favoured high-def units, the Canon HG10 and Sony Handycam DR-SR8. In reality though, shop around, drive a hard bargain and you should be able to shave hundreds off the asking price.
Sony Handycam HDR-SR8
Sony breaks through the 100GB barrier with this range-topping high-def camcorder. Like its SR7 twin, it is highly recommended.
Canon HG10
A solid hard-drive based HD camcorder, the Canon HG10 nevertheless has its share of annoying quirks.
JVC Everio GZ-MG505
A well-designed hard-disk-based camcorder, the JVC Everio GZ-MG505 produces video and stills that look great on TV. But its price might make you hit Pause.
